Ensuring the safety of the public, our customers and our staff.
Risk assessment and the safety system
Powerteam places significant emphasis on the use of Method Statements and risk assessments to effectively control the hazards on site and have invested heavily in training all our employees to critically evaluate working situations and environments with a view to identifying and managing safety hazards.
All operational employees are fully site inducted. They complete daily risk assessments and regularly attend toolbox talks. By emphasising the importance of on the ground risk assessment, we have ensured our employees focus on managing their own safety, that of their colleagues and the wider public.
Powerteam actively encourages “near miss” reporting by our employees and subcontractor partners of incidents that could have led to an accident. Research has shown such reporting leads to a greater focus on accident prevention and ultimately a reduction in the number of accidents.
All operational staff are provided with our standard full personal protective equipment (PPE) this is supplemented where appropriate to meet any bespoke specific requirements of our customers (eg, flame retardant overalls). Additionally tools and equipment are regularly updated and calibrated every six months in line with our ISO accredited quality procedures.
OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditation
Powerteam was awarded the internationally recognized OHSAS 18001:2007 certification for occupational health and safety management systems. OHSAS 18001:2007 is a safety management system that enables us to identify and control operational health and safety risks, reduce the potential for accidents and improve overall performance. We are audited on a six monthly basis by independent third party auditors to ensure continuing compliance with this standard.
Regular safety auditing
Powerteam has a proactive internal auditing system for monitoring safety within our business. Our project managers and project supervisors perform regular formal site safety audits. In addition, our ISO 9001:2008 quality auditors check that all risk assessment procedures are being correctly completed daily and on time. This is assessed in turn by external ISO 9001:2008 and OHSAS 18001:2007 auditors every six months. Powerteam is also accredited as a registered supplier under the Achilles UVDB Verify Scheme and has received RoSPA’s Gold and National Irish Safety Organisation awards for its strong safety performance.
Our commitment to safety
Powerteam recognises that only by aiming for exceptional health and safety performance will we achieve world class performance. We have set our target to be zero safety incidents. We believe that by integrating our risk and safety management and assessment systems we have developed a culture where employees, suppliers, customers and the public understand that health and safety is our core concern.
